Here's the story of my application process...!
So I put in for information on the DCP awhile ago. I've had some friends do it, and they loved it. I was interested in learning more, but kind of forgot about it after awhile.
I got the e-mail that applications were open, and I ignored it, like most of my emails. I was an x-ray tech student, gearing up for more college applications. I pushed the thought aside.
I was at work one day (I work at my college's library), and was flipping through e-mails. I saw the one from Disney about the CP, and I took a peek. I decided to fill out the application for basically shits and giggles. I didn't expect anything out of it....
Lo and behold, about an hour later, I got the invite for the web-based interview. I did some research and found out at the end, they would tell you if you're a candidate for the next round of interviews. I was honestly really bored at work, so I took the quiz. It took about 45 minutes, and they ask a lot of the same questions to see if you're consistent with your answers. But I filled it out honestly, again, not really expecting much...
Imagine my surprise at the end of the interview.... I was a candidate for a phone interview! Now, this whole Disney application thing happened in the span of about 3 hours. I got to thinking. This could be the opportunity of a lifetime... so, I went ahead aaaannnndddd....
I scheduled a phone interview! It was scheduled for 11 days after I filled out the WBI. I called my dad, and told him about this. He seemed pretty psyched, and now, I was getting excited. What if I actually got it?!
But then I came back to reality. I probably wouldn't get it. I was graduating, and my major had NOTHING to do with this internship program. Surely, they wouldn't want me. So I tried to push the upcoming interview from my head...
I couldn't though. And as the days got closer, I saw all these people on the Facebook group posting about their interviews. I was so nervous. I looked up questions, and created pages of notes for the interview. For someone who wasn't expecting anything from this, I really wanted to do well.
The day finally came. That day, I was working an 11:30-8pm shift in MRI at my hospital in Vermont. I ran to the library on my campus, and asked my supervisor there if I could use our employee meeting room to do my interview. He said yes, and for the next 20 minutes, I sat and waited for that call to come.
A few minutes after 8:45pm, a No Caller ID popped up on my phone. My hands shook as I picked up the phone, but I put on a HUGE smile and talked to my interviewer, Kristy, for nearly 30 minutes. She asked me a bunch of questions about my work experience, my role preferences, how I'd like working outside, what I'd do in case of an emergency, and if I knew the Disney look (of course I knew it). I asked her a few questions about her involvement with Disney, and her excitement just got me excited. I felt pretty good about the interview after we hung up.
Now, it was time to play the waiting game. 7 days after my interview, the first day of acceptances came. The 26th of February. No e-mails for me. The 27th of February also had a huge wave of acceptances. No e-mails for me.
The 28th came, and I was working at clinicals from 8-12, then I had to catch the Megabus back to New York City at 12:45 for spring break. I was hanging out in CT for the day. It was pretty slow in outpatient care, so I checked my e-mail to see if I got any messages from my teachers. But instead, all I got was this.
I started FREAKING out. The technologist and the med assistant working with me asked if I was okay. I told them what happened and showed them the e-mail. Now these people only knew me for pretty much 10 hours, but they were SO ecstatic for me. I HAD to call my dad. Of course, he didn't answer the first time. So he called me back, I told him, and he was so happy for me! I started texting everyone. I don't know how I made it through another 2 hours of work, but I did. And I had to celebrate by taking a 6 hour bus ride home, plus a 2 hour train ride. But it was okay.
1 week and 2 days after my interview, I had been accepted to the Disney College Program for Fall of 2014 as a LIFEGUARD!
This made it so real!!!
Immediately began the roomie search, and friend search. I've been so lucky to say I've already found some awesome roommates and amazing friends, and I can't wait to make more when I'm down there.
And that's the beginning of my crazy DCP journey! :)
